Seven national cricket sides will visit Guernsey later this month, as the island gears up to host a round of qualifiers for the men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

The matches – in the ICC’s Europe Division 2 – will see Guernsey, Sweden, the Isle of Man, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and France compete for a place in the 2028 tournament.

It will give the young athletes a chance to develop their skills and confidence in an internationally competitive setting, a Guernsey Cricket spokesperson said.

Richard Headington, Chief Operating Officer at Guernsey Cricket, said: “This tournament will bring some of Europe’s most promising young players to the island… and is a fantastic opportunity for them to make a name for themselves in a major ICC pathway event.

“For our own young players, having a tournament of this calibre take place on home soil will also be hugely inspiring.”

Mr Headington said he hoped the tour would “encourage more young people to get involved in cricket and give the wider community a chance to experience and support international sport on their doorstep”.

A number of 50-over matches will take place across four of the island’s cricket grounds – including College Field, KGV, Memorial Field and Port Soif – over the ten-day period.

Further details about the fixtures will be released shortly, with the matches taking place between 22 and 31 July.
