A team of under 15s girls cricketers got a much-needed development opportunity by competing in a UK tournament.

The girls took part in the ICC Under 15 Girls Tournament last month, in Taunton, Somerset, thanks to sponsorship from IT firm Apogee.

Richard Headington, Chief Operating Officer of Guernsey Cricket, praised the girls for their “enthusiasm, commitment and sportsmanship throughout the tournament”.

Marion Brooks, Chief People Person at Apogee, said the firm was “delighted” to support the squad and “incredibly proud of everything they achieved during the tournament”.

She added: “It has been wonderful to see the players represent Guernsey with such passion and commitment, and we hope the experience inspires them to continue enjoing and developing their cricket.

“Supporting young people within our community is something that is very important to us, and we look forward to following the team’s future progress.”

The opportunity gave Guernsey’s young cricketers a taste of international competition, showing the girls what it takes to represent Guernsey on the international stage.

Competing in the tournament is part of Guernsey Cricket’s goal to continue the development of girls’ cricket on the island, which has been identified as one of its strategic priorities in the years to come.

Mr Headington said: “We would like to express our thanks to Apogee for their fantastic support of our Under 15 Girls porgramme.

“Partnerships such as this make a genuine difference. They provide young players with opportunities to develop as cricketers, gain international experience and create memories that will stay with them for many years.

“We are determined to continue investing in the girls’ pathway, and the support of organisations such as Apogee plays a vital role in helping us achieve those ambitions.”
