Dozens of French yachts are arriving into Guernsey today for a popular sailing regatta.
The entrants in Le Télégramme Tresco Trophée sailed out of the Port of Morlaix last night before arriving throughout this morning.
By 09:00 a few of the visiting sailors were already relaxing in St Peter Port Harbour.
This event is seen as the one that “raises the sail” on a busy summer of events in Guernsey Marinas, with around 30 rallies and regattas scheduled to take place.
It is the 42nd year that members of the Yacht-Club de Morlaix in Brittany are taking part in this popular race, which has brought more than 25,000 French visitors to Guernsey over the years.
Approximately 65 yachts have signed up for this year’s regatta, most of which will have 5-6 crew members.
On Friday night, the competitors will head to Castle Cornet for their annual fête, where the results from this first stage of the race will be announced.
They are then scheduled to sail onwards to Perros-Guirec on Sunday morning.
Marina Manager Steve Lowe said: “We have already welcomed a lot of visiting boats into Guernsey so far this spring and we have a significant number of events booked in for the months ahead.
“Our regular sailing regattas will be returning once again this summer and we have had lots of bookings from yacht clubs across the UK and France, which is very encouraging for the upcoming season.”
