Guernsey FC Women have been given a place in the English Football Pyramid.
The club confirmed that the ladies’ team will be playing in the Southern Region Women’s Football League Division One South after the league AGM in Reading on Sunday.
This gives the Green Lionesses a place at Step 6 of the pyramid with the opportunity for promotion through the leagues depending on how they play.
Manager Anna Gauvain said she’s excited for that challenge to begin.
“We are delighted to have been accepted. This is the next step in our development, and I am thrilled to lead the girls into our next challenge. Roll on next season.”
The 2025/26 league will commence in September.
It will see Guernsey FC Women will join 11 other sides in Division One South.
GFC said it’s an “exciting development” and a “significant moment in the club’s journey to provide regular, high-level opportunities for our footballers in Guernsey. It reflects our ambition to grow the women’s game on the island and compete proudly on the national stage.”
Nic Legg, GFC Communications & Commercial Director said the hard work continues for the Green Lionesses through this exciting development and he’s keen to work with other organisations that might be able to support them.
“Securing Step 6 football is fantastic news and the realisation of stage three of our three-year plan. I’m so excited for the team, especially the young players coming through, what a platform they now have with Victoria Park to train and play locally, and 11 new teams to test themselves against in the UK.
“We’d be delighted to hear from any businesses that would like to partner with us and sponsor the Green Lionesses as we play in the UK pyramid for the very first time, and help us take the next step. There is no better time to get involved, with Maya Le Tissier currently at her first major tournament with the Lionesses, this will further inspire our own Green Lionesses.”
