Scott has featured in all eight Premier League games for Bournemouth so far after an injury disrupted first season with the club.

The latest problem was picked up earlier this week and assessment at the end of a training session revealed that it would require surgery.

“The club’s performance and medicine staff will now support Alex through a rehabilitation process over the coming months, ensuring he has the best possible recovery,” the club said.

“Everybody at AFC Bournemouth sends their best wishes to Alex, and we hope to see him back on the field soon.”

The 21-year-old started in Saturday’s 2-0 win at home to Arsenal.

Scott spent two spells on the sidelines last season, having sustained a knee injury before joining from Bristol City and later a medial collateral ligament problem that took him out for seven weeks.

He made 27 appearances across that campaign.
