Alex Scott has spoken of his meteoric rise up the footballing ranks in a presser ahead of England’s World Cup qualifiers.

The 22-year-old who began his career playing grassroots football in Guernsey said he was unsure he would ever make it in the professional game but said he was “over the moon” he had been called up to the senior squad.

He paid tribute to all the coaches, his family and “everyone who helped me get to this point”.

Scott said his dream is to get a place with the squad in a major international tournament, but insisted he is “taking it one step at a time”.

But his main focus is getting some game time in the coming week, gelling with players from Harry Kane to Phil Foden, and showing off his abilities.

England have already secured their place at next year’s World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico but still have to face Serbia on Thursday before travelling to Albania for a fixture on Sunday.

Scott currently plays for Bournemouth, having made the move to English Football with Bristol City after stints at Guernsey FC and St Martin’s.

He has also impressed with the England Under-21s.
