Guernsey’s Alex Scott has been called up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad ahead of November’s final World Cup Qualifiers.
Following the islander’s £25 million pound move to Bournemouth from Bristol City, the midfielder has made waves in the top tier of English football, so much so, that he has caught the eye of the German boss.
Scott adds his name to a prestigious list of Channel Islanders, joining Matt Le Tissier and Graeme Le Saux, to have represented the Three Lions in the men’s game.
Tuchel spoke highly of the Guernsey-born midfielder when speaking to England: “He had an excellent [Under-21s] Euros, he won the title. Lee [Carsley] was full of praise; he did an excellent job in midfield with Elliot Anderson. He is a regular starter for Bournemouth, who are overperforming constantly, and he is a starter for them.”
“He puts the intensity in, he gets minutes, so we thought this is the perfect time to reward him, get to know him better and see what he can bring to the team.” continued the former Chelsea boss.
The Three Lions return to Wembley on 13 November to face Serbia, before meeting Albania three days later.
Scott, lining up alongside some of the best midfielders in world football, will be hoping to earn his first England cap, a milestone that would see him become the 1,296th player to represent the national team.
