The Jersey Bulls goalkeeper suffered a broken collarbone during a penalty shootout which ended his side’s FA Trophy campaign.
The Bulls were beaten 4-1 on penalties by Hayes & Yeading United at the Skyex Community Stadium on Saturday, after a dramatic 2-2 draw in the Preliminary Round of the Isuzu FA Trophy.
The club confirmed Pierce Roche’s injury in a statement on social media yesterday.
“We’re sad to share that goalkeeper Pierce Roche sustained a broken collarbone during yesterday’s penalty shootout,” Jersey Bulls said.
“Everyone at the club is wishing Pierce a safe and speedy recovery. We can’t wait to see him back between the sticks when he’s ready.”
Jersey had pushed their fellow Step 4 side all the way after taking an early lead through Sammy Henia-Kamau.
Hayes & Yeading equalised shortly after half-time before Casey Nixon restored the Bulls’ advantage late on with his first goal for the club.
However, the hosts responded almost immediately to make it 2-2 and send the tie to penalties.
Hayes & Yeading went on to win the shootout 4-1, with Roche suffering his injury during the penalties.
The Bulls will now turn their attention back to their Isthmian League South Central campaign, with a trip to Moneyfields tomorrow evening for a 7.45pm kick-off.
