A French boat was towed to safety by a Guernsey lifeboat crew, after it broke down about 42 miles west of the island.
The four-strong crew of the 7.5-metre rigid inflatable boat (RIB) were rescued on Sunday evening, after France’s Cross Jobourg Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) asked Guernsey Coastguard for help.
The RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) Spirit of Guernsey was sent to rendezvous with the broken-down boat and assess the situation, at about 16:00 on Sunday 16 August.
A Guernsey Coastguard spokesperson said: “We would like to thank the crew of the Spirit of Guernsey for giving up their Sunday afternoon and evening, to go to the assistance of the French RIB.”
All four crew members were safe and well, when the lifeboat arrived.
The lifeboat took the four crew members on board, before towing the RIB to St Peter Port, arriving about 22:00.
The RNLI’s St Helier lifeboat station, in Jersey, covered the Guernsey area while the Guernsey crew was retrieving the French RIB.
The spokesperson said the rescue highlighted the “strong working relationship between the French, Jersey and Guernsey Search and Rescue communities, whose seamless coordination ensured assistance was provided quickly and efficiently.”
