Survey says… you’re reading Jersey’s top online news source!

Friday 04 March 2016

Bailiwick Express is Jersey’s top online news source – and you don’t have to take our word for it, that’s the finding of an independent online survey filled in by 1,369 people.

The survey, by independent political campaign group change.je, was mostly about favourability ratings for politicians and about whether the Council of Ministers was heading in the right direction.

But it also asked respondents where they got their information on local politics from, and the results showed Bailiwick Express as the top online source.

Respondents were asked “Where do you currently get your news about Jersey politics (Select all that apply)?” and the responses were:

-       ITV Channel News – 70.79%.

-       Jersey Evening Post – 64.48%.

-       Social media – 57.99%.

-       Bailiwick Express – 57.30%.

-       BBC CI News – 55.40%.

-       BBC Radio Jersey – 39.59%.

-       Channel 103FM – 39.41%

-       Jersey Evening Post online – 35.96%

-       Channel Online – 33.54%

-       BBC Jersey online – 28.87%

Bailiwick Publishing Director Mark Jackson said that he was thrilled with the results of the survey, which he said showed that Islanders were increasingly willing to go online for news, instead of relying on the traditional media.

Mr Jackson said: “We’re obviously delighted by the results of this independent survey – we’ve been working really hard since we launched in January 2014 to build an audience and become a trusted and authoritative news source, and our readership figures have been growing consistently.

“We have plans to invest more in our reporting in the coming months and to keep adding more features to our website.

“We’d like to thank all of our readers for their support over the last two years, and we promise that there is much, much more to come.”
