Three Guernsey Hockey teams are in action this weekend in the England Hockey Championships, with two home games to be played at Footes Lane on Saturday.

Whilst the Mens First team travel off Island to face Reading in Tier 2, both the Ladies’ First team and Mens second team have drawn home ties to set up an exciting day at the home of Guernsey Hockey.

The Ladies 1st XI face Teddington, who ejected them from the 2016/17 competition following a hard-fought game on the mainland. Since then, the squad has seen several changes and boasts an exciting mix of experience and youth that have developed through the ranks over the last couple of years.

They will go into the game with confidence off the back of a win against Lewes in the last round, and several decent results this season playing in the local Mens second division.

Later in the afternoon, the Island Mens 2nd XI will make their debut in the competition after entering for the first time this year. Keen to test themselves against off Island competition, a core of second team players have been training together regularly since the disappointment of coughing up a four nil lead to draw against Jersey in Marchs inter insular.

Hockey Development Officer and Mens 2nd XI player Steve Eulenkamp said: This weekend is a rare opportunity to welcome two UK visiting teams to the home of Guernsey Hockey. It promises to be a day of great hockey, and both teams are excited to be playing in home draws on the same day.

The Mens’ second XI in particular will be looking forward to making their debut in the national competition, but both teams will be hoping that the support of a local crowd will spur them on and help them progress to the next round in the new year.
