Covid team to continue through Christmas

Monday 21 December 2020

Contact tracers and swabbers will be working on Christmas Day, it has been confirmed.

While the service won't stop, the Government said that it will be "more limited" on bank holidays.

When case numbers were lower in the island, and cases primarily found through the arrivals screening programme, Express understands Jersey’s covid workforce were initially informed that they would likely be able to take a break over Christmas.

However, with community virus transmission now rife and case numbers rapidly approaching 1,000, that position has now changed and many were told last week that the service would have to keep running at close to normal capacity.

A spokesperson told Express that the Government was “reviewing its plans and discussing with staff the extent of cover required over the holiday period.”

“We are planning to keep services open throughout the festive period to support islanders, with a more limited service provided on bank holidays,” they said.

There are currently 939 recorded virus cases in Jersey, with just under 4,000 people deemed direct contacts.
