Missing man's daughter raises over £11k in aid of search charities

Monday 19 June 2023

The daughter of a 51-year-old whose sudden disappearance sparked a major search earlier this year said her family has been "immensely touched" by the generosity of islanders, after her fundraiser for the two charities which helped look for her dad surpassed £11,000.

Accompanied by a group of her friends, Thomas Frost's daughter, Emily, completed the Island Walk over the weekend in aid of RNLI and Channel Islands Air Search.

"When my Dad went missing in February, the RNLI and Channel Islands Air Search worked extremely long hours searching for him. My family is exceptionally grateful for their time, support, and resources," Emily explained ahead of the 48-mile walk, which she completed with pals Izzy, Izzy, Tilly and Maeve.

"The 18th of June is Fathers' Day – I would like to complete this walk for my dad, whilst raising money for these important services.

"The donations received will be divided equally between these two charities."

Emily's fundraising target was initially just £100, but donations on her JustGiving page have now surpassed £11,500.

Following the walk, Emily said: "Despite being hot and humid, all five of us successfully completed the Island Walk. Izzy, Izzy and I finished in 14 hours and 35 mins, and Tilly and Maeve just a few hours later."

She added: "Thank you so so much for all the donations. Having started the target at 100 pounds, we never thought we would manage to raise so much money.

"My family and I have been immensely touched by your generosity. I hope this money will support these two charities to continue their good work."

Mr Frost — who is 5’10, medium build with greying hair — was last seen at his parents' address, situated on a lane above L'Etacq in St. Ouen, on Saturday 11 February around 22:00.

Police believe that when he left the house, he could have been barefoot, but wearing a crimson t-shirt underneath a navy shirt with white buttons and navy jeans, and that he may also be wearing a light grey hoodie.

Various agencies joined in the search for Mr Frost, including Jersey Search and Rescue, Jersey Fire and Rescue Service, Channel Island Air Search, the Jersey Coastguard, CI Search and the Honorary Police. A Police Search Advisor from Guernsey was also brought over.

Searchers made use of drones, boats, planes and a search and rescue dog.

Despite following up numerous lines of inquiry and receiving several reports of people matching Mr Frost’s description, there have been no confirmed sightings since Mr Frost left his parents’ house.

On the two-month anniversary of the 51-year-old's disappearance, a senior police officer expressed his sadness in concluding the "physical" stage of the search for Mr Frost - but pledged to keep the wider investigation open.

Anyone who has any information is asked to call Police on 612612, selecting option 2 and then option 4.
