With her training curtailed by lockdown, a local archery champ has spent her time figuring out how to set up a range at home...and coming up with unique home workouts using her bow and arrows.
Lucy O’Sullivan, who also works as a personal trainer at Rad fitness at the Radisson, says she has been able to spend more time on training over the last few weeks.
While her bow and arrows never leave her side, archery pro Lucy says things were initially difficult for her, as Archery GB closed down local clubs for insurance purposes.
However, determined to keep shooting, Lucy set up a small range at home, which was given the all clear by the Police’s Chief Firearms Officer, and got her own insurance to shoot on her property for the next few weeks.
With an Olympic lifting bar and some weights, resistance bands and general bits and pieces at hand, Lucy was already well-equipped to train from home.
She also got to take a lot of kit from Rad Fitness home to work on her back and arms during the lockdown.
She has been sharing some her training routines on YouTube, inviting fellow archers and those wishing to get fit during lockdown to join in.
“This lockdown has actually been amazing for my training. I have had less workload, so I can really focus on myself and my training,” Lucy said.
“I have been running every other day and generally feeling a little bit like a full-time athlete at the moment.”

Due to her coach being in the UK, Lucy’s communications with him haven’t changed much and they keep in touch via text.
Unfortunately, her training camp, which was due to take place in the UK last weekend, was cancelled.
Her lifestyle and philosophy coaches from the Jersey Sport Foundation contact her weekly over Zoom which Lucy says has been “an incredible support”.
“Mental support is critical at this time, as all of my goals have had to be re-evaluated with no competitions coming up at the moment,” Lucy said.
Zoom, along with FaceTime, has also proved really handy for Lucy as it enables her to coach her @strengthbylucy clients throughout the day.
Lucy added: “I get to be an archer and strength/cardio train when I am not doing this.”
