Another Guernsey Deputy has resigned from one of the island’s top committees.
It is the second committee resignation in 24 hours, and the third in just two months.
Deputy Garry Collins stepped down from Employment and Social Security (ESS), hours after Deputy Haley Camp announced she was leaving Economic Development (ED) in a scathing resignation letter.
Unlike Deputy Camp, Deputy Collins has not disclosed his reasons, saying he would “not be making any further public comment” until he makes a statement in the States on 15 July – ahead of the island’s next debate on proposed tax reforms.
However, he has previously criticised States’ spending and is planning to propose an alternative to Policy and Resources’ (P&R) tax proposals in the July debate.
Deputy Collins is the second person to resign from ESS in nine weeks, following Deputy David Dorrity’s resignation at the end of April – saying he was frustrated over a “lack of focus to identify and deliver meaningful savings”.
Deputy Dorrity was replaced by Deputy Ross Le Brun shortly after his election to the States in the April by-election.
