Thousands of travellers expected during the island’s port’s ‘peak weekend’

About 18,000 passengers are expected to pass through Guernsey’s airport and harbour this bank holiday weekend.

Anyone supposed to travel this weekend is being asked to check their airline’s recommended check-in times and keep up-to-date with departure times and travel guidance.

Richard Thomasson, Airport Director of Guernsey Ports, said: “Obviously this is one of our peak weekends for travel, so we have a lot of passengers to process.

“We therefore advise everyone to plan ahead, make sure they arrive in good time, and for those booked on early morning departures who have hold baggage to take advantage of Aurigny’s Twilight Check-in, which is available daily from 3pm to 8pm.

“Anyone arriving early at the airport can make use of the landside café, located on the upper floor of the terminal building, which will be open from 7am. They can relax there before proceeding.”

While passengers can arrange special assistance, such as a wheelchair, when they arrive, passengers can pre-book this through their airline.

From Friday 28 August to Monday 31 August, around 10,000 passengers will travel through Guernsey Airport, and 8,000 through the harbour.

James Way, Harbour Master at Guernsey Ports, said: “With more than 8,000 passenger movements expected through St Peter Port Harbour over the Bank Holiday weekend, we are preparing for a particularly busy period.

“We are also keeping a close eye on the weather, with stronger winds forecast at times on Saturday and Monday, which could affect some sailings.

“Our teams will be working closely with ferry operators and other partners throughout the weekend to keep passengers moving safely and efficiently.

“We would encourage anyone travelling by sea to allow a little extra time and check directly with their operator for the latest sailing information for the latest sailing information, as weather conditions may result in changes to services.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors to Guernsey and helping residents get away for what should otherwise be a very busy and enjoyable Bank Holiday weekend.”
