Valentines Day is just around the corner, but what stories have you loved reading this week?
From drunk drivers to award-winning food, here are the Express stories that’ve got your heart pumping in the last seven days.
1. Epstein’s island links
The US Department of Justice published three million new documents to the Epstein files last week, so we decided to dig into them to see how often the Channel Islands were mentioned.
Find out whether Guernsey or Jersey was mentioned more, which so-called “shady financier” was mentioned most often, and who was hanging out with Peter Mandelson in Jersey.
2. Ferry bad week
DFDS has been under fire for a few things recently, with criticism coming from both bailiwicks, but this week things went from bad to worse when a blaze broke out on one of its ships.
3. Four months in clink for driver who’d had too much drink
The first person to go to jail under Guernsey’s new – tougher – motoring laws was sentenced to four months inside and banned from driving for four years.
34-year-old Matthew Luscombe was the first person to be successfully prosecuted for the new offence of ‘causing a serious injury by dangerous driving’.
4. Paedophile dies in hospital
A convicted paedophile died of natural causes in hospital earlier this week, after having been transferred from prison for treatment.
5. Not plane sailing
A passenger-less plane nearly dropped out of the sky last week, when it allegedly slowed down almost to the point it couldn’t stay in the air.
Aurigny confirmed an investigation was underway into the incident, but thankfully the crew were fine.
Sharing the love for Valentines’ Day…here’s another story!
6. Restaurant’s star is rising
Like all good relationships, things at one Guernsey restaurant have been going from good to great.
Last week, Vraic was named the ‘UK’s fourth-best restaurant‘, but now the Chouet-based eatery has gone one better, bagging a coveted Michelin star – the island’s first in 17 years.
Netflix or chill?
The Winter Olympics has just started, so many people will be chilling at home watching it on TV or a streaming platform.
But for one Guernsey man, he’s about to experience how cool it is to compete in zero degree temperatures. What’s more, it’s his first time abroad!
