Nearly 300 people have already challenged themselves to a 10K walk, run or both for a local charity.

The Guernsey Mind Investec 10K challenge returns on Sunday 23 August to raise money for the charity, which is asking islanders to “step up for mental health”.

The event is aimed at all ages and abilities; whether you’re a marathon finisher, progressing from a 5k or simply fancy a Sunday stroll.

Amanda Hibbs, Communications and Events Lead at Guernsey Mind, said the event “raises vital awareness” for the charity and also supports its mission.

“Exercise benefits not just our bodies, but our minds too.

“We hope this event inspires people to get moving with a clear goal in sight,” she added.

The challenge begins at the Imperial Hotel and follows the coast, finishing at Grandes Rocques – a relatively flat course, so participants don’t need to worry about any unexpected challenges.

For the first time teams of four can run together providing support for each other along the way.

Guernsey Athletic Club is supporting the marshalling of the event with members of Investec staff.

This meant that “every penny raised by participants will go directly towards supporting our work locally”, Mrs Hibbs said.

Emily Dawson, from Investec, said: “This event appeals to all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re new to running or want to challenge yourself with a longer distance or a faster time, it’s a hugely rewarding experience.

“We’re proud to support the event again, with Investec staff volunteering to help marshal the route and ensure everything runs smoothly.”
