Jersey snatched gold in the Men’s Mountain Bike Criterium Team Award at the Orkney Island Games with Guernsey claiming the silver.

The Sarnian team of Mark Le Page, Seth Davey, Mark Ferbrache, Peter Sargent (pictured top – credit GIGA), and Charlie Tourtel beat the Isle of Man, who came third.

Guernsey’s Le Page narrowly missed out on a podium spot in fourth place in the Men’s Individual Mountain Bike Criterium.

The gold medal winner in that event was Menorca’s Jaume Bosch Pico with Grant Ferguson of the Shetland Isles second.

Jersey’s James Dilks acquired the bronze medal, finishing third in a huge field of 34 riders.

He had an excellent run finishing with a time of 47mins 23.5s to secure his podium finish. Le Page was just behind him in 47mins 33.9s.

Dilks spoke about the difficulty of the course and credited his Sarnian opponents for their skills on the day.

“The course was tight and twisty, it didn’t play to my strengths really, I’m more of a technical rider. I managed to get up into the top group early and made a gap from the Guernsey lad who was with me for a bit.”

Dilks continued: “I’m really happy to take the individual bronze, it’s been a goal of mine for quite a while and it makes all the sacrifices worth it.”
