Guernsey’s medal tally improved significantly after yesterday’s Island Games events. Prevailing in Swimming, Archery, Athletics, and Cycling, Guernsey moved up to fourth in the medal table, just behind neighbours Jersey.

Swimmer Chloe Bown was at the helm of Guernsey’s success yesterday evening. The young swimmer collected three gold medals at the Pickaquoy Centre in Orkney.

Bown won the Women’s 200m Freestyle in an emphatic fashion, her time just 0.33 seconds short of the Island Games record. She also attained gold in the 400m Individual Medley, with teammate Oriana Wheeler taking silver ahead of Jersey duo Clara Ginnis and Hannah Sterry in third and fourth.

Bown also lead the Women’s 4x50m Freestyle Relay Team to success with yet another gold medal attached to her name. Teammates Molly Staples, Tatiana Tostevin, and Orla Rabey put in fantastic times to achieve gold ahead of Aland and the Faroe Islands.

Rabey acquired a medal of her own in the 100m Butterfly, placing second in a hotly contested Final.

Guernsey continued to impress across the board. The Sarnians’ only other gold medal in yesterday’s episode came from Lawn Bowls veteran Rosemary Ogier.

Taking part in the first outdoor Lawn Bowls competition at the Island Games, Ogier is the only member that had previously represented her Island. Ogier’s experience shone through in the Round Robin Women’s Singles event as she topped the table with four wins from five.

In cycling, Philip Touzeau achieved a mammoth feat finishing on the podium in the Men’s Individual Time Trial, battled out by 48 contestants.

Touzeau achieved a bronze medal with Jersey’s Tom Heulin and Jack Rebours narrowly missing out on medals, coming in fourth and fifth.

Despite having no podium finishes in the Individual Women’s Time Trial, some fantastic times from Guernsey’s female riders placed them in the silver medal position.

Pippa Inderwick, Hannah Kennedy, Andrea Nightingale, and Chloe Truffitt clocked a combined time of 1:56.52, losing out to the impressive Gibraltarian squad.

Archery brought Guernsey another two medals with Monika Komla and Zoe Gray putting excellent performances in their respective categories.

Gray pipped Jersey duo Angela Perrett and Hannah Bridle to the silver medal in the Single WA 1440 Women’s Compound. A massive 344 to top the field in the final round from the 30m mark propelled Gray into a comfortable second place.

Komla finished third to ensure a bronze medal in the Women’s Recurve, won by Jersey’s Mollie Perrett. Lisa Gray narrowly missed out on a podium finish in fourth place behind her teammate.

The Track and Field events further showcased the exceptional sporting talent of Guernsey’s women.
