Bowler Malcolm De Sousa and heptathlete Lucy Woodward will lead Team Jersey on stage at Glasgow 2026, after being named to carry our flag and Commonwealth Games baton at the opening ceremony.
De Sousa (35), appearing in his fifth consecutive Games, will bring the Jersey flag into the Hydro Arena on Thursday evening, with Woodward (23) alongside as one of 74 baton bearers.
Woodward is due to begin her two-day, seven-event campaign at Scotstoun Stadium on Tuesday (28 July) – the same day that De Sousa gets underway in the men’s pairs at the SEC, with Ross Davis.
Fellow bowler Taylor Greechan will open Jersey’s account in the men’s singles before the opening ceremony takes place, following a change to the listings and the addition of “Day 0” to the Games schedule.
“I’m really honoured to be carrying the flag,” said De Sousa. “It’s an incredible honour to represent the team and everyone who’s supported me along the way. It’s a special moment and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Woodward said: “Being chosen to carry the baton is an honour. It’s my first Games and I’m making history as Jersey’s first heptathlete – carrying the baton will be the cherry on top and I’m very grateful.”
The opening ceremony is due to be shown live on Channel 5 and TNT/HBO from 8pm on Thursday.
The remainder of the Games will be streamed live via TNT/HBO, with Channel 5 running daily highlights shows (up to two a day, morning and evening).
