A 2-0 win away at AFC Stoneham on Tuesday night saw Jersey Bulls climb up to second in the Isthmian League South Central.
After an unbeaten start in the league, the Bulls may have expected to record a comfortable win against a side struggling near the foot of the table.
James Sunley put the Islanders in front midway through the second-half but a handful of spurned opportunities coupled with a dogged display from the hosts kept Stoneham in the game.
It was not until late on that the Bulls wrapped up the three points, as Lorne Bickley continued his fine form in front of goal.
The Bulls sit eight points behind Bognor Regis, but have two games in hand on the league leaders. Elliot Powell’s side travel to Kingstonian on Saturday.
