This weekend is set to be the scariest Halloween ever - as islanders contemplate why it’s still nudging 20 degrees at the end of October.
The most-watched horror movies this weekend are expected to be An Inconvenient Truth, Seaspiracy and Frozen Planet 2, perhaps watched in a pair of shorts on the balcony.
And traditional activities for this time of year are likely to have a new twist - barbecuing your pumpkin on the beach, apple bobbing in the swimming pool and going on a scavenger hunt to find rapidly disappearing glaciers and Pacific islands.
And next week - traditionally a time to wrap up in hats, scarves and gloves to celebrate Bonfire Night - will be a time to ‘Remember, Remember the Fifth of November, in T-shirts, Flip-Flops and Top’.
The spectacular fireworks are likely to be what will happen if we don’t rapidly change our lifestyles to stop pumping so much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
One organiser of an event in St. John said: “Even our potatoes are reluctant to wear jackets this year.
“Being able to wear just a shirt at 8 in the morning and 8 at night, let alone at noon, just can’t be right, can it? I’ve heard of an Indian summer but never an Indian autumn and winter.”
