All week we have been exploring behind the scenes at Guernsey Electricity’s power station.

Operations Engineer, Joel Bramer showed Laura Clayton around offering insight into the power station itself, as well as the control room, tank farm, and more.

They discussed how GEL produces power for the island — from the undersea cable to the chimneys, and the fuel stored on site.

Joel explained what happens inside the power station to meet daily peak demand, how they maintain the chimneys, and why it’s important to keep fuel on the island.

They also talked about the volume of fossil fuels used each year, and the ongoing work to ensure Guernsey’s electricity supply remains reliable.
