A new bar is due to open in St Peter Port on the site of the former Koi Koi near the High Street.

Randalls is applying for a license this month with the new bar set to open before Christmas.

The ‘Category A’ Liquor Licence, sometimes known as a ‘Standard Licence’, will permit the sale of alcohol to the public.

Although the site is owned by Randalls, the team from the Swan will be the ones behind the new hatchling. They said ‘Cygnet’ will stand out from their other St Peter Port offering.

“We’re aiming to open in time for the festive period…with final details to be announced soon,” they said.

“Cygnet will share the same welcoming spirit and focus on quality that people know from The Swan, but it’ll have its own personality — it won’t be a pub with live sports, but rather a bar, and with more surprises coming next year.”

Despite a turbulent past when it comes to businesses operating from the site, the landlords say they’re confident in Cygnet’s potential.

“We know the venue’s seen a few faces over the years, but we’re confident this little Cygnet will find its wings. Our plan is simple: great drinks, good tunes, and a laid-back spot where everyone can come together and have a good time. Can’t wait to open the doors and see everyone soon!”

In May last year, Express revealed that Koi Koi, and her sister eatery Koi Koi Express suddenly stopped operating.

The property for the main business was put up for sale for just under £1m, and then a couple weeks later the owner announced that those who had paid deposits for the now-defunct restaurant and bar, would get a full refund.

Pop-up bar “Yeti” then took over the site for last year’s festive period.

Prior to Koi Koi, the bar has previously been called the Red Onion, the Buzz Bar, and the Rock Garden.
