Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq appeared in Guernsey’s Magistrates Court today, where he was remanded back into custody for another three weeks.

He was charged with numerous telecommunication and sexual offences last month and has already been in prison on remand for a month.

He has not entered any pleas to the charges, and the prosecution this morning said police investigations are ongoing.

While that work is continuing, the prosecutor asked for Deputy Le Tocq to be remanded in custody. There was no opposition to that from the defence Advocate Claire Tee.

Deputy Le Tocq will now reappear in court on 6 October.

His case was due to be committed to the Royal Court on 1 October, but that has been postponed to 29 October so the police investigation can continue.

The former Chief Minister was first arrested in July on suspicion of telecommunication offences. He was released on police bail while investigations continued at that time.

He was then charged with numerous telecommunication and sexual offences and appeared before the Magistrate’s Court in August when he was subsequently remanded in to custody at Les Nicolles Prison.

At the time of his arrest, he was a member of the island’s Policy and Resources Committee but he has since formally tendered his resignation from that role. He remains a Deputy in the States of Guernsey.
