The winning entry, by Diana Craik at the University of Oxford, shows a micro-fabricated chip in a quantum computer.
A photograph of neurological connections between developing brain cells, which could help stem cell research to treat Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases, won second place.
An “iCub” humanoid robot playing with a baby and a pair of endangered Costa Rican lemur leaf frogs are among the other finalists.
