Football Manager can become an obsession for many people, but one man from Norwich has got all of us beat when it comes to putting their lives into the game.
Darren Bland, from Norwich, has just been recognised with a Guinness World Record for the longest single game of Football Manager – 154 seasons.
Darren took over Fiorentina in Football Manager 2010 and led them to 151 league titles in his 154 seasons, only ending his game when he spilt liquid on his laptop, breaking it in the process.
According to Guinness World Records, Darren’s total time spent playing the game was an incredible 173 days, 16 hours and 51 minutes, with the year in-game at the end of his run being 2163.
Dareen’s game began after he moved back home to care for his mother, using his free time to start his epic journey with Fiorentina.
He spotted the odd anomaly along the way too – including a famous World Cup win for Algeria in the mid 21st century. Thanks to a lack of inflation in the game, Darren was also able to run a tight ship financially too, his record transfer fee spent in over a century and a half was £105 million for Luis Tejedor in 2040.
So the next time you get accused by family or friends of spending too much time on the football sim, point them in the direction of Darren Bland’s virtual career.
