You may have missed Instagram’s news on Thursday about their new app, Boomerang. It’s the photo-sharing platform’s answer to Vine, and allows users to upload a one-second video and absolutely no longer than that.
Like most things, a large section of the internet immediately leaped upon it and denounced it. “What’s the point in a one-second video?!”, they screamed, panting with frustration. “We already have gifs. WE HAVE GIFS ALREADY!”, they’re shouting, topless now, infuriated by this harmless experiment by Instagram.
We’ll be honest though, we had a few of the same thoughts at first too. Will anyone use it? What can you actually record in a second that is worthwhile? So, we thought we’d give it 24 hours and see what the internet could come up with. Here’s the final product of 24 hours with Boomerang.
1. Karlie Kloss was an early adopter, and kept it simple but sweet.
2. Twenty One Pilots had some fun on a staircase.
3. And on stage.
4. These sausage dogs were perfectly synchronised.
5. And Brazilian football team Corinthians turned their goalkeeper into a superhero.
6. Some people can now do magic, thanks to Boomerang.
7. A new meaning to the never-ending traffic jam was born.
8. This cat’s already pretty hilarious appearance was made even funnier.
9. And this dog just seems a bit ridiculous.
10. While this one was proven a genius.
11. This dog wants his ball, and you better give it him.
12. Oh – you can swear at people on a never-ending loop.
13. And you can make your friend seem really enthusiastic about seeing you.
14. Those escalators on the tube become a new kind of hell.
15. Flip books are awesome again.
16. Obviously someone had to throw an actual boomerang.
17. Dancing. Dancing is improved by Boomerang.
