21 signs you worship at the altar of Apple

Apple fans have a bit of a reputation – their unwavering support for the products that come out of the design studio in Cupertino is infamous. No matter the price, the feature specifications, or the fact that a rival might offer something better, the hardcore will always meet you with the reply; “Yeah, but it’s Apple!”

It’s a cult-like existence that has built up over the company’s 38-year history. In the early years Apple products and their users were the outsiders, hipsters and underdogs. This protective group mentality has stuck and evolved into the heavy fandom we see today. Scoff at it though many do, you might be more of an Apple fanatic than you realise. Be honest, how many of these are you guilty of?

1. You’ve queued up for launches.

You’ve travelled to your nearest Apple Store complete with the sort of gear normally reserved for a walking holiday in the Lake District. The aim? To camp out on the street for three days just so you can pay £500 for a phone faster than anyone else when the doors open on launch day.

2. You take over-hyped features as fact.

(Martyn Landi/PA)

“The bulging camera on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is an intentional feature that means the phone feels better when placed in an official Apple case. Plus the extensive redesign that led to the bulge means the iPhone is now a far superior camera to most other devices on the market.”

Be honest, you’ve said something like this before?

3. You take criticism of Apple products personally.

You overhear someone on the train taking a swipe at the iPad for being too expensive, or iOS for being too restrictive, and it takes all your willpower not to storm over and intervene in defence of your beloved. How dare they criticise something so beautiful, so simply elegant… iOS is intuitive, they just don’t understand.

4. You’ve never owned an Android device, and obviously not a Windows one.

Why would you? Apple is the best and you already know that. Why would you waste your time with an inferior operating system that lacks the functionality and aesthetic value of iOS. At least that’s what you assume Android and Windows must be like. Variety? Pah, who needs it.

5. You’ve made and posted an unboxing video.

Because the whole world NEEDS to see a 15-minute video of you struggle to lift the lid on an iPad Air 2 box one-handed while your other holds the iPhone 6 Plus you’re recording this on.

6. You no longer speak to someone who once suggested iOS copies Android.
