One of the most anticipated gaming sequels of 2015 will go on sale on Tuesday.
As that pretty hefty trailer shows, there are many aspects to Fallout 4, and it is the variety of the game which seems to have fans excited.
From the open-world wasteland to the various enemies, here are some of the key things we’re most looking forward to seeing.
The previous two games in the series have been notorious for the sheer size of the open world in which the story takes place. Expect that to continue and probably expand. The trailer already hints at a vast array of environments – so much like previous games in the series, well over 100 hours could be spent just wandering the Fallout wasteland.
Developer Bethesda has handed creative licence to the player when it comes to what the game’s hero will look like. Pretty much the first thing you’ll do is create a lead character for yourself, customising everything about them, including gender.
Mutants, other survivors, robots and gigantic monsters will all be coming at you in Fallout 4. This lends itself to several very different types of combat: gunfights, dodging bigger creatures and so on. So there’s little chance you’ll get bored with what you come across.
As well as exploration, mission-completing and enemy fighting, Fallout 4 places a huge emphasis on your shelter. Anyone who’s seen post-disaster TV shows such as The Walking Dead will tell you that creating a safe shelter can go a long way to extending your lifespan. So here there are moments where Fallout will make things feel a little like The Sims as you scavenge materials to add to your hideout.
The Fallout universe has always been a fascinating place, and now this universe will be on next-gen consoles for the first time. The post-Second World War United States combined with the already mentioned post-nuclear winter wasteland, steampunk robotics and glimpses of the 21st century makes for a very enticing setting.
In short, you should be very excited about Fallout 4, and the good news is you’ve still got a few days to get to know the series if you’re new to it. Better get on it.
