After press conferences that gave us new consoles, virtual reality systems and even a glimpse of a new Hideo Kojima game, the doors of E3 have finally opened – and the industry has flooded through to get their hands on everything that’s coming up in the next year or so.
This is what we learned.
Though not holding a press event, Nintendo did have a low key ‘treehouse’ offering at which it confirmed a new Legend of Zelda game was on the way – as has been anticipated.
The game is being held to launch with the new NX console, though we still don’t know when that is coming, and Nintendo only showed footage from the Wii U rather than the new console.
Virtual reality was never far from the limelight during the build up to E3 – and indeed the press conferences – and it was the same story on the show floor too.
Batman Arkham VR on the Ubisoft booth had big crowds, while Oculus has a big booth in one hall housing its Rift headset. HTC Vive is here too, while it was confirmed the PlayStation VR headset will be out in October.
Virtual reality is making the biggest headlines this year.
As part of the Forza Horizon 3 announcement, the game is the official debut for the 2017 Lamborghini Centenario. As if having the virtual version of the supercar in the game was not enough, Forza went one further and put the car itself on the Xbox booth.
That’ll draw in the crowds.
It never takes long for something unusual to catch your eye at E3, and the majority of the time it’s someone in a costume.
We’re not sure if this had someone inside it or not, but it was strange nonetheless.
eSports are a very big market these days – and as a result, the idea of professional or competitive gaming crops up more and more into the consideration of gaming accessory manufacturers.
Turtle Beach is using E3 to show off the Elite Pro, its new gaming headset that is aimed at eSports players – they even come with cooling gel filled ear pads to keep you comfortable.
From better headsets to microphones aimed at Twitch and YouTube streamers, the gamers appear to have inherited the Earth.
