Dozens of the biggest names at CES 2016 have rolled out a line of new products, each looking to steal the spotlight from their competitors.
In among all the queuing and questionable music choices that pepper the Las Vegas event, we discovered plenty of potential, and also learned just how important first impressions are.
With technology moving at such breakneck speed these days, the different categories of gadgets that appear at CES are broader than ever.
But deep down this is still a show that revolves around TVs, and 2016 is no different. All the big names were at it again on Tuesday, and those in attendance seemingly can’t help but still get excited by 4K, HDR and beyond.
Both Samsung and Huawei made bold statements with new variations on their existing wearables.
Both also appeared to have a similar idea to push the fashion side of things – offering new, appealing colours to entice new users.
However, Huawei didn’t get their marketing strategy quite right when trying to position their new Jewel and Elegant versions of the Huawei Watch as “for women”.
The term used on stage was “lady watch”, something that quickly became the talk of social media.
It wasn’t just Huawei who had a sticky moment either: following Fitbit’s announcement that it would be launching its first smartwatch, the company’s share price plummeted.
The reason suggested by some is that Fitbit dominates in the movement trackers, but won’t find things as easy when it starts going up against the likes of the Apple Watch with far fewer features.
It was the talk of social media over the weekend, and now we know it IS real.
And it finally made its bow during Samsung’s press event.
Another exciting nugget from Samsung was the news that later this year the Gear S2 will become compatible with iOS, giving iPhone users an interesting choice when it comes to picking a wearable.
