Sci-fi fans have good reason to rejoice – Amazon has confirmed that all nine seasons of The X-Files have been added to their Prime Video library in HD for the first time.

It’s a big win for the service given that nowhere else in the UK offers any of the pop-culture classic, while the whole catalogue is available on Netflix in the US.

The cult classic is set to return to screens with a new series later this year, with stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny set to reprise their roles as Mulder and Scully.

But before that airs fans will now be able to relive the entire show so far, as long as they’re a Prime member.

In the ongoing battle to be top dog in the streaming world this is a big statement by Amazon, whose Fire TV and Fire TV Stick hardware continue to be popular with consumers, competing well with the Apple TV which was relaunched by the tech giant towards the end of 2015.

Much like Netflix, Amazon has also been having success with original programming too, with it’s own Transparent picking up a Golden Globe for best actor – Jeremy Tambor.

The technology giant also launched a music service for Prime customers last year.
