When the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launched last year, the devices set a first weekend sales record for Apple of 10 million – but the tech giant claims this year’s 6s and 6s Plus are on course to beat that number.
According to the iPhone maker, interest in the two new phones, which were announced in San Francisco last week and will both come with Apple’s new 3D Touch screen technology, has been “exceptionally strong”.
This is despite the exterior of the new phones being largely unchanged compared to last year’s phones, but there is now a rose gold version of the phone to go with 3D Touch.
One reason for this apparent performance could be that this year, unlike with the 6, the 6s and 6s Plus are going on-sale in China on day one. The Cupertino-based firm has made huge strides in the country over the last year or so, and adding China as a launch country is a sure fire way of keeping sales up.
It seems to be working too, with the Apple store already showing that the demand for the rose gold version of the 6s means getting it on launch day is impossible.
Speaking of launch day, the scenes of huge queues outside your local Apple Store are just around the corner – the two new iPhones go on-sale on September 25.
