The first major update to Windows 10 is almost upon us and Microsoft appears to be almost ready, with the alleged final beta version of the Anniversary Edition now with users.

Those on the Windows Insider Program – Microsoft’s testing scheme that enables users to try out early versions of new software – have spotted that preview Build 14393 has been pushed out to fast track and slow track users within two days of each other, a sign this is the final version of the software.

According to Computerworld, this sequence of fast to slow releases has been a final process of previous Windows 10 launches, and suggests that Build 14393 is near enough the version that will roll out on August 2.

Among the key features of the Anniversary Edition update is improved Cortana integration, as well as pen support that will enable greater screen annotation with a stylus across Windows devices.

The news also serves as a final reminder to Windows users that their time to download 10 for free is nearly up. This opportunity for users of Windows 7 and 8.1 expires on July 29, after which time an upgrade price of around £99 will apply to get onto 10.
