After a quiet and somewhat uncertain few months, Destiny fans have some solid news to cling on to – a full sequel is coming next year.
Since the release of bumper expansion pack The Taken King in the autumn there has been some internal strife at developer Bungie, CEO Harold Ryan stepped down and has been replaced by Pete Parsons, all the while updates to the huge gaming universe have gone a little quiet.
After a first year which saw a steady stream of new content for Destiny, and planning ahead from Bungie, the recent quiet has unnerved many players.
But in its latest blog post the developer has confirmed that another big update is coming in the spring, which will include “a significant Light increase, a bunch of new gear to earn and equip, and new challenges for PvE players seeking some more fun experiences and replayability”.
Bungie also confirmed another large expansion for the end of the year before a full Destiny sequel in 2017. No more details on exactly what to expect were shared, but they were promised in the coming months.
The original was launched with some fanfare in 2014, with a 10-year budget said to be around $500m, eclipsing not only other gaming franchises but also Hollywood blockbusters.
All that work on your Guardian in these quiet months will be well worth it, then, come spring.
