Eagles are being trained to take down drones as if they were their prey.
With more and more people owning private drones, officials are seeking new ways to control potential threats.
Police in the Netherlands are working with a Hague-based company to investigate whether the birds of prey can be used at large events or near airports where the small flying machines are banned.
Dennis Janus of the Dutch national police said trainers exploit the birds’ natural instincts to tackle the high-tech problem of drones flying in restricted areas.
He added the birds are trained “to think drones are their prey” and get a reward if they catch one.
Dutch police will likely make a decision later this year whether to use the birds. But judging by this video from Australia, the eagles might not need much training.
Meanwhile, in Japan, police have created their own drone-catching drones as a security measure.
