EE recalls all of its Power Bars over "fire safety risk"

EE has issued a recall for all its Power Bar portable chargers because of a fault that can cause overheating and a “fire safety risk”.

The move by the telecoms firm comes just four months after an initial recall of one batch of the portable chargers amid reports they could overheat and explode. The company has now said that in order to make sure all customers remain safe, all Power Bars should be returned to an EE store.

In a further statement on its website, EE said: “If you have a Power Bar, you should stop using it straight away and hand it in to one of our stores.

“We are taking this action because we are aware of a very small number of further incidents where Power Bars have overheated in circumstances that could cause a fire safety risk.

“Keeping our customers safe is extremely important to us, and that’s why we’re taking this voluntary and precautionary action.”

The network operator confirmed those who return their charger to an EE store will be eligible to a £20 voucher in exchange.

EE announced the Power Bar scheme in April, which gave customers the chance to claim the free portable charger, and swap them at EE stores for fully charged ones should theirs run out while away from a power supply. Around 1.5 million had been made available, as the scheme was met with huge demand.

The mobile operator is yet to offer any further comment on the recall.
