Now you see it, now you don’t.
Entrepreneur and innovator Elon Musk shared this video on Instagram showing a car elevator at work.
The overly simple caption: “Testing The Boring Company car elevator” possibly does a disservice to the technology at work and the implications for the achievement. The video shows the car, a Tesla, disappearing underground.
So what’s going on?
Musk, the CEO of electric car company Tesla and the man behind Space X, is also the backer of hyperloop systems – designed to move pods at high speeds through vacuum-sealed tubes. In the future, hyperloop tunnels could ferry people, cars and cargo.
Musk has previously hinted at the system being used between New York and Washington DC, transporting people in 29 minutes compared with the current near three-hour train journey, with elevators taking people to street level.
The priority of The Boring Company is to build tunnels which could alleviate traffic in Los Angeles, Musk said earlier this month.
Using elevators to take cars beneath the surface to link with the system are part of that vision.
… Told you that caption was a bit too simple.
