Fallout 4 is one of the most anticipated games this year, and it’s due to hit the shops at midnight tonight to much excitement.
Naturally, some of the gaming press have already been exploring the post-apocalyptic world – with the first reviews appearing online this afternoon.
And while there was plenty of love, there were some problems as well.
Videogamer.com’s Simon Miller said: “Easily the developer’s most accomplished title to date, Fallout 4 takes everything that made its predecessor such a success and refines it, rather than fundamentally altering it. Be it the gunplay, the story, the world, or just how seamlessly everything fits together, this feels like the zenith of the model Bethesda has been working on for a significant period of time.”
While Andrew Webster of The Verge said: “Fallout 4 still takes place in a huge open world, provides you with an incredible amount of freedom with which to customize your character, and throws you into dangerous scenarios cast with immoral baddies.”
However, there were still issues; something developer Bethesda has had to deal with in the past, as Webster also alludes to.
“The game also features the series’ infamous technical problems, with frustrating glitches and bugs that often pull you out of the experience at best, and at worst, lose hard-won progress.”
USA Today’s Sam Machkovech summed up the game with “pacing and plotting issues hamper the best content in this incredibly huge quest”.
Those on social media were offering their 140-character reviews too.
There’s little doubt that no matter the reviews, many will not think twice about investing money and time in Fallout 4, and just in case you’d forgotten, you can do so from midnight tonight.
