Mobility is proving to be an important area for technology companies this year, with Tesla announcing its first mass-market electric car and Google continuing to test driverless technology.
At the other end of the spectrum, hoverboards and segways continue to grow in popularity despite question marks remaining over the safety of some types of device.
Beyond that, there’s a new kid on the block – a reworking of a classic – in the form of electric skateboards.
It’s still early days for such products, even compared to the hoverboards that have been hugely popular in recent months.
The issue at the moment remains price, with few manufacturers able to offer one for less than $1,000 (£700) – a lot of money for a skateboard.
But Acton’s Blink Board could be about to break that glass ceiling as it costs $499 (£349). A quick glance around the competitors show that’s significantly less than all of them.
However, that’s still a lot of money, especially when you can find segways and hoverboards in the UK for around £200.
Whether this revamp of the classic skateboard does fully take off remains to be seen, but the Blink Board looks like a jolt in the right direction for the latest trend in mobility.
Walking is so 2014.
