Forgotten the name of a film? There is now a website to help you remember

It is scary to think how many hours the average human loses in their lifetime trying to get someone to help them remember the name of a film.

“What’s it called? You know, that film which Tom Hardy is in but he doesn’t really say anything.”

“Think you’ll have to be a bit more specific, mate.”

On and on it goes, with it being a small miracle for anyone to ever remember the title of the movie in question.

Well, things are about to change.

Whatismymovie.com is a website that can identify what movie you’re thinking of based on only a vague description.

For example, if you can’t remember which film Tom Hardy sat around in the background looking moody in, you can put in “Tom Hardy few lines”.

And voila. It is, of course, Layer Cake.

The website currently has a library of 40,000 English-language films, dating back to 1900 and can analyse thousands of concepts.

It was built by Finnish researchers from Valossa, a company based at the University of Oulu, who were examining the idea of “Deep Content”.

They explain on their website: “Deep Content is everything we can see and hear in a video, but cannot mechanically analyze – until now. Deep Content includes transcripts, audio, visual patterns and basically any form of data feed that describes the video content itself.

“After analyzing the deeper levels of the video, we automatically convert it into advanced metadata. This metadata is then processed by the beating heart of our engine: a cognitive machine learning system that understands natural language queries and matches it with our metadata.”

So, remind me, what is that flick where Gary Oldman did all those drugs?

Leon! Of course.

Life will never be the same again.
