Has Apple accidentally revealed the new MacBook Pro already?

Apple is set to reveal a new MacBook Pro laptop later today, complete with a thin touchscreen display at the top of the keyboard in place of some of the keys.

However, the much rumoured “Magic Toolbar” appears to have been confirmed in new screenshots seemingly released accidentally by the technology giant as part of an update to the macOS software that runs on their laptops.

It has been noted by many that the photos appear to show that the Escape key is no more.

According to the images and wider reports, the thin display will sit where the row of function keys appear on a traditional keyboard and will be touch sensitive, with one image even suggesting it will contain a fingerprint scanner capable of supporting Apple’s Touch ID and Apple Pay feature.

The new MacBook Pro is also expected to be thinner and lighter than previous models.

Apple is holding an event at its Cupertino headquarters, where the new computer is expected to be unveiled.

Following the removal of the headphone jack from the iPhone 7, which launched in September, it has been suggested Apple may take similar steps with the MacBook line. The MacBook and MacBook laptops could also be updated as part of the announcement.

The reveal comes just a day after rivals Microsoft unveiled a powerful new version of their own flagship laptop – the Surface Book i7 – as well as a new folding desktop PC, the Surface Studio.

It’s been suggested that Apple may also announce a new version of their own desktop computer, the iMac.

The announcement also comes in the wake of mixed financial results for the tech giant, who reported still-in-decline iPhone sales in their results on Tuesday.
