Google’s larger new Nexus phone has been built in collaboration with Chinese firm Huawei, and is the first Nexus to have a full metal body.
Much like the 5X, the 6P has a 12.3 megapixel camera in the rear, and an 8 megapixel front-facing ‘selfie’ camera.
The device has a 5.7-inch screen, and an ultra high definition screen that has 518 pixels per inch. To power this larger screen, the 6P has the Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor housed within it.
Both the 6P and the smaller 5X also have the new universal USB-C connection port for charging and data transfer. Google says this enables faster charging in both phones too.
Google confirmed the 6P will come in three colours – Aluminium, Graphite and Frost, as well as in 32, 64 and 128GB storage sizes.
The 6P also has the Nexus Imprint fingerprint scanner, as well as the Now on Tap feature as part of Android Marshmallow.
This feature enables users to ask the Google Now digital assistant questions on any screen within any app and see contextual suggestions and search results.
Given the premium nature of the 6P, Google is likely looking to take on Apple less than a week after the iPhone-maker’s latest smartphone, the iPhone 6s, was launched.
It’s starting price of £449 also places it in competition with Apple.
