HTC has announced an upcoming event where the smartphone maker is expected to unveil a new flagship device, one that could use “squeeze” technology as part of its software.
The flyer for the announcement – with the date of May 16 – comes complete with the tagline “Squeeze for the brilliant U”, which isn’t as random as it initially sounds.
Rumours suggest the company has been working on a new flagship smartphone reportedly called the HTC U, a phone that could have touch sensors embedded in its frame that mean you can interact with it by squeezing it.
A video leaked to social media earlier this year appeared to show a similar device in action, with the frame sensors used to navigate through menus and call up apps, as well as take pictures.
HTC hasn’t provided any further details on the announcement yet, but the Taiwanese firm will be hoping to provide competition for the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and the LG G6 that have already been unveiled this year.
