Now that the show floor at GamesCom is open, visitors can get the hands-on gaming time they’ve been pining for.
One of the big pulls at any tech show these days is also virtual reality, and an announcement from the HTC/Valve camp about their VR collaboration, the Vive headset, makes for interesting viewing.
The two have confirmed the existence of a new experience being demoed at the show called The Secret Shop, which is based on DOTA 2, Valve’s hugely popular online game.
For some perspective, while Halo announced a first ever world championship competition on Tuesday with a prize pot of a million dollars (£640,000), DOTA 2′s next championship will see 18 million dollars (£11.5 million) up for grabs.
The Secret Shop will feature DOTA 2′s shopkeeper, as the concept art suggests, but is unlikely to spawn into a 3D immersive version of the game just yet. So hold your horses for now.
But it does add to the already impressive list of experiences that the Vive has to offer – including a stunning underwater experience called theBlu, and a table-top battle game that you see from a similar perspective to HoloLens’s Minecraft demo we saw at E3.
We were fortunate to try out the Vive earlier this year – including the simulations mentioned above – and should The Secret Shop follow in those footsteps, DOTA fans will not be disappointed.
