Solar panels will be available in stores across the UK again, Ikea has said.
Despite the UK Government slashing solar subsidies earlier this year, the company has announced three “Solar Shops” will sit inside their stores in Glasgow, Birmingham and Lakeside (Thurrock).
Ikea staff will offer advice and a provisional quote to British customers who dream of a solar-powered home. UK specialist Solarcentury will then take them through the design and installation process.
Depending on the pilot’s success, solar panels could be on offer in all UK stores “by the end of the summer”, an Ikea spokesman said.
Solar panels were available from the company before, back in 2013, with support from Chinese renewable energy company Hanergy. But this finished in November last year, reportedly because of the Government plans to cut solar subsidies by nearly 90%.
According to Ikea though, Britons were not put off solar technology. A third of UK homeowners are still interested in buying solar panels because of the amount of money they could save, the firm said.
