Instagram is introducing a new feature to its app that will allow users to share the best moments of their day with the world.

Instagram Stories allows you to post as many photos and videos as you desire for followers to view throughout the day, before they disappear after 24 hours.

The snapshots won’t appear on users’ profile grids or their followers’ feeds after this time.

There’s no limit on the amount of photos or videos you can upload and you can get creative with your stories, bringing them to life using text and drawing tools.

Stories from people you follow will appear in a bar at the top of your feed, and when they’ve shared something new with the world, their profile photo will have a colourful ring around it.

To view the story, just tap on their profile photo. You can go back and forth between posts, and jump to another follower’s story all with a few swipes and taps on your screen.

If you see a snapshot or clip that you want to comment on, simply tap on it and send a private message to that person on Instagram Direct – there are no public comments on stories.

The privacy settings on users’ stories are the same as their account – if their profile is set to private, their stories will only appear to those who follow them. What’s better is that users can choose to hide their entire story from anyone, even if they follow them.

You can also keep an eye on your own story by swiping up to see exactly who has looked at each of your photos and videos.

The new feature will be rolled out on iOS and Android globally in the next few weeks.
