Instagram’s integration of features more commonly associated with Snapchat appears to be working – the photo-sharing app has just shot past 600 million monthly active users.
In recent months the site has added a Story feature similar to that of Snapchat, as well as disappearing messages – photos and video that vanish once being opened – identical to Snapchat’s core idea.
The updates to the Facebook-owned app seem to be working though, with Instagram adding 100 million monthly active users in six months between June and December, taking them to an impressive 600 million in total.
Another stat that emphasises the size of the growth is that the app has doubled in size in the last two years.
The announcement leaves Facebook and its family of apps in a very healthy position in relation to user numbers.
Facebook itself is far and away the biggest social network out there with around 1.8 billion people using it each month, while WhatsApp and Messenger have both broken the one billion mark this year.
